A Backsprint take on "I Hung My Head," written by Sting and originally released on his 1996 album Mercury Falling. Famously covered by Johnny Cash on American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002). Bruce Springsteen later took it as a full-band rock arrangement at Sting's 60th birthday concert in 2011 and the 2014 Kennedy Center Honors.
A narrative ballad — a man accidentally shoots a stranger with a rifle and reflects on the moment of meeting his end. Backsprint's version sits closer to the Springsteen rock arrangement than the Cash minimalism — 4/4 time, key of G, harder vocals.
Small geographic curiosity: Sting's 9/8 original is in the same time signature family as the Bulgarian aksak rhythm tradition (Grancharsko horo, counted 2+3+2+2) — a Balkan rhythm Sting almost certainly didn't know he was writing in. A Belgrade band covering it returns the song to the rhythmic neighborhood it came from.
